Despite its title, at least half of the splendid Heritage release is Portuguese-derived rather than Portuguese. But the early cuts are examples of the great Portuguese guitar style. (The rest are Brazilian and U.S.-Cape Verdean.) All in all, this is a gem. The Monitor album from several decades later makes for interesting comparison and is in its own right a fine example of the rather formal Portuguese instrumental style, played by six-string and Portuguese-guitar virtuosi.
