Eric Kloss' third recording features the soulful yet adventurous altoist in two different settings. Three brief numbers are performed with a four-piece rhythm section, the reeds of Danny Bank, vibraphonist Teddy Charles, and a female vocal group. While those tracks are somewhat lightweight, five other songs (including "Softly As in a Morning Sunrise," "You Don't Know What Love Is," and a ten-minute rendition of "Milestones") match Kloss with pianist Jaki Byard, bassist Richard Davis, and drummer Alan Dawson, and are the obvious reasons to search for this LP. As with most of Kloss' output, this album will be a bit difficult to find.
