The Japanese do it up right with this single-disc, 18-cut best-of collection from the Kinks' Arista years. The albums from the period on the label include the underrated Misfits, Sleepwalker, Word of Mouth, State of Confusion, Give the People What They Want, the smash hit "Low Budget," and the double-live album One for the Road. The Arista years proved to be a renaissance of sorts for the band, who had issued such dullards as Schoolboys in Disgrace, and the truly appalling Preservation, Acts 1 & 2. Davies simplified his writing style, beefed up the production for the era and came up with such winning tunes as "Misfits," "Come Dancing," "Low Budget," "Stormy Sky," "Bernadette," "Destroyer," and "Good Day" to name a few. The package is deluxe and the sound is remarkable."
