Greatest Hits Review

by Andy Kellman

Greatest Hits is a cheap-looking but otherwise adequate compilation that pulls from the late '70s and early '80s albums Phyllis Hyman recorded for Buddah and Arista. Released by Kama Sutra in 1994, it has since become rather obsolete in the wake of several other discs that function similarly (and better), but it should still come in handy in a pinch. Among the missing are "Somewhere in My Lifetime" (number 12, Black Singles), "Tonight You and Me" (number 22, Black Singles), and "Betcha by Golly, Wow" (her contribution to Norman Connors' You Are My Starship album, a Top 30 Black Single that has appeared on several other Hyman compilations).
