This is an odd one. It's billed as Armstrong playing his greatest hits in concert, but there's no info about recording dates or venues. In fact, it sounds like this album was pieced together from various live sources. The version of "Basin Street Blues" sounds like Louis sitting in with someone else's band, for example. This confusion doesn't diminish the quality of the music one bit, though. Most of the tunes here sound like they were recorded in mid-career, when Louis was still full of fire. The recording quality is just OK, but from a jubilant "Way Down in New Orleans" to the dixieland fury of "High Society," Armstrong blows strongly and exuberantly. This is a good one for patching holes in the collection of diehard Satchmo fans.
