The great tragedy of the vaudeville age is that it flourished and peaked before widespread recording was able to preserve its best performers. This Sony Special Products collection is a notable attempt to remedy the matter, with routines by famous vaudevillians who survived long enough to become radio or television entertainers. The blend of monologue and song on this disc suits the average vaudeville stage quite well, and there are many highlights -- including a skit by Burns & Allen, a lecture by W.C. Fields, a monologue by Victor Borge, and songs by Eddie Cantor, Rudy Vallee, Morton Downee, Baby Rose Marie and Arthur Tracy (The Street Singer).
