No matter how you shake and stir these dozen tracks, which include some fine cuts like Toots & the Maytals' "Sweet and Dandy," Gregory Isaacs' "Lonely Teardrops," Desmond Dekker's "It Mek," and Eric Donaldson's classic "Cherry Oh Baby," it certainly doesn't add up to anyone's idea of a great reggae album. It's too short, for one thing, and while it does have a Bob Marley track, no one would ever mistake "Kinky Reggae" for an A-list Marley selection. This set works if you're at a truck stop and absolutely can't drive any further unless you find yourself some reggae to listen to, but if you have time to be discerning, then you have time to pass this one by.
