This 12-track collection from Tropisounds (Sony) is misleadingly titled. While it does include a dozen excellent cumbias from the music's mature era, rather than an overview of the '70s, it simply collects singles from that decade by a small number of artists; in other words, there are three cuts each from four different artists: Los Hispanos, El Combo de Las Estrellas, Los Graduados, and El Combo Nutibara. All of these cuts are solid jams (they were all regional hits), the sound is quite good, and for the $7.98 list price, the album is a steal. That said, it's hardly accurate to call this an overview of the literally hundreds of great cumbias released during the '70s in Colombia.
