AllMusic Review by

A collection of 27 songs from 12 moderately- to lesser-known artists from the '80s, '90s, and into the 21st century (and most of whom hail from Colombia), Grandes Clasicos de la Salsa includes tracks from Joe Arroyo (the excellent "Pa'L Bailador," "En Barranquilla," "La Noche"), Alfedo DeLaFe ("Historia de Dos Salseros," "La Cantaleta"), Los Titanes ("Sobredoses," "Bastó una Mirada," "Noche a Noche"), and Fruko y Sus Tesos ("El Preso," "Descarga Espectacular," "Tania"), among others. And while the songs might not be ones that have already been committed to memory by salsa fans, there's enough great rhythm, brass, and vocals that they soon could be new favorites. There are pieces that slip into the over-produced, super-smooth feel that some Latin music has, but for the most, part the selections on Grandes Clasicos de la Salsa stay true to explosiveness and fun that the genre really knows how to bring on.
