AllMusic Review by

Cleopatra's three-disc Gothic Legends box repackages three previously released albums: the Eva O career retrospective Past Times, the 1996 David J/Alan Moore/Tim Perkins collaboration The Moon and Serpent: Grand Egyptian Theatre of Marvels, and the Christian Death rarities/remixes compilation Death in Detroit. While Christian Death could be placed among goth rock's top acts and the other two have high-pedigree associations (Eva O eventually joined Christian Death and David J was a member of Bauhaus), this generally isn't the material "gothic legends" are made of. Granted, Past Times is a neat summation of Eva O's career and The Moon and Serpent will probably appeal to diehard goth fans. The Gothic Legends package is also very reasonably priced. But if you're attracted by the title, there are much better places to get acquainted with the genre (and, generally, the artists in question).
