An excellent compilation that proudly stands in blatant opposition to the run of "greatest hits" collections that has hitherto blighted the 10cc catalog. Just three of the group's biggest singles appear here, "Life Is a Minestrone," "People in Love" and "The Things We Do for Love." Elsewhere, a digest of the group's first years on the Mercury label, 1975-1978, serves up such seldom-compiled gems as "I Wanna Rule the World," "Flying Junk," the latter-day jewel "For You and I," and the title track, a gorgeous little ballad that was originally buried away on a B-side. With such an emphasis, Good News is certainly not an album for the casual consumer. Rather, it is targeted at anybody who remembers 10cc as a creative cut or two above the standard pop pap of the '70s, ever-inventive, restless and questing.
