AllMusic Review by

Jimmy Day's talent as a steel guitarist is indisputable, and this import two-fer reissues his 1962 instrumental albums Golden Steel Guitar Hits and Steel & Strings on one disc. The albums were recorded under the direction of Shelby Singleton and Jerry Kennedy and feature an all-star cast of Nashville A-team accompanists. Like fellow steel guitarist Noel Boggs, Day could venture into easy listening territory as evidenced on the Steel & Strings album, which is indistinguishable from the music of 101 Strings. The mellow mood is exacerbated by the use a vocal chorus on both albums (which isn't necessarily bad, but isn't what many buyers would expect). The fluid steel guitar solos make it all worthwhile, though, and Day certainly deserves the spotlight.
