St. Clair's Gold Collection: Rock 'N' Roll Party collects 20 songs from '50s and '60s artists such as Little Richard, Billy Joe Royal, the Miracles and the Grass Roots. However, only a handful of these tracks appear in their original versions, and the vast majority are inferior re-recordings or live tracks (Jerry Lee Lewis' "Rockin' My Life Away" is particularly bad). Some of the newer versions don't sound terrible; Paul Revere & the Raiders' "Indian Reservation," Mitch Ryder's "Sock It to Me," Shadows of Knight's "Gloria" and Denny Laine's "Go Now" aren't great, but aren't as lifeless as some of the other tracks. Still, this collection has such a poor ratio of original songs to re-recorded versions that it can't be recommended.
