It's one thing to recycle popular songs that have been compiled on dozens of other discs, but it's another thing entirely when inferior versions appear instead of the originals. Below the track listing on each volume of St. Clair's Gold Collection series, the consumer is informed -- in very small lettering -- that the songs are not the original versions. Instead, they are either live takes or "new stereo recordings." These comps should be hard to give away, let alone sell. Gold Collection: Pop Chart Busters follows suit, with undesirable versions of Fats Domino's "My Blue Heaven," the Crystals "One Fine Day," Gerry & the Pacemakers' "I Like It," Paul Revere & the Raiders' "Good Thing," and Freddie & the Dreamers' "I'm Telling You Now."
