Fine Tunes' The Gold Collection contains a selection of 14 live performances, none of which are particularly remarkable. There is no indication of when the performances were recorded, or who the supporting musicians were, and the poor fidelity camouflages the recordings even more. Collectors might enjoy trying to figure out the origins of these tapes, but they'll more likely be frustrated. But they might not be as frustrated as curious budget-minded listeners who will pick this up as an introduction to Bird and find themselves sorely disappointed. Stick with the more expensive collections -- they may cost more, but they provide a better introduction to the genius of Parker.
