There are no liner notes on Fine Tunes' The Gold Collection, nor is there any indication to when the music was made. It is clear that several of Ella Fitzgerald's most popular songs -- "Angel Eyes," "My Heart Belongs to Daddy," "Sophisticated Lady," "A-Tisket, A-Tasket" and "Lover Come Back To Me" -- are here, but these are neither best nor the most popular versions of these songs, and many favorites are also missing. Most likely, these are latter-day versions from Fitzgerald, which may interest some collectors -- provided that the documentation was clear. Casual fans, however, would be more interested in better, more comprehensive collections than this one, which isn't even a good choice for the budget-minded.
