AllMusic Review by

A promo-only release celebrating the first single from Deserter's Songs, Goddess on a Hiway + 5 is a mishmash of assorted B-sides available across the many singles and EPs launched by the LP in question. Its value is debatable -- on the one hand, it consolidates a lot of scarce material, but on the other, it leaves off many of the best B-sides of the period. The Chemical Brothers' remix of "Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp," for example, is an exercise in pointlessness, while "Rag Tag" is a goofy but underwhelming attempt at Spike Jones-styled insanity. Much better are the covers, including an aching "I Only Have Eyes for You" and live takes on Neil Young's insidious "Vampire Blues" and John Lennon's harrowing "Isolation."
