Forget the movie Muriel's Wedding or Broadway's Mamma Mia -- the ABBA revival began here. Issued in conjunction with the British label Clawfist's singles club series, this split uniting th' Faith Healers and Mambo Taxi respectively covering the Swedish pop superstars' "S.O.S." and "Super Trooper" was the first project of its kind to pay homage to ABBA without irony, reimagining the group's music in a modern and even underground context while never losing sight of the indelible melodies and emotional depth at the heart of the original recordings. It's a tribute to all involved that these covers seem neither forced nor jokey -- in particular, "S.O.S." ranks among the Healers' finest hours, effortlessly melding the Morse code melody of the original with the band's churning signature sound.
