AllMusic Review by

A lengthy look at female-fronted pop music that boasts a suitably exhausting scope, the three-disc set Girls ranges from soul to disco to adult alternative to house. Nearly every track here will be familiar to radio fans -- especially British radio fans -- and the set hits more chart highlights than it misses. Although it's nowhere near chronological order, it is slightly organized, with minisets clustered close to each other -- a disco block ("Upside Down" by Diana Ross, "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor, and "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer), an adult alternative set ("One of Us" by Joan Osborne, "What I Am" by Edie Brickell, and "There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis" by the beloved Kirsty MacColl), and a trio of sultry '80s pop singers ("Touch Me (All Night Long)" by Cathy Dennis, "Love Is Holy" by Kim Wilde, "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tiffany).
