AllMusic Review by

One of the biggest jazz groups in Japan, the fusionists Casiopea celebrated the 25th anniversary of their debut by releasing Gig25, a massive greatest-hits compilation. The album is huge, 25 tracks running the gamut from their 1979 debut album to 2003's Places. The whole set is powered by high-energy rhythm from bassists Tetsuo Sakurai and Yoshihiro Naruse (depending on the decade) and drums from Akira Jimbo and a series of rotating replacements. Combined with overactive keyboards and guitar, the sound is pure '80s fusion, with the focus entirely on instrumentalism and texture.
