Kent continued their long streak of releasing winning Northern Soul compilations with Gettin' to Me. A beautiful blend of Detroit soul and releases from other soul meccas (Memphis, Philly, etc.), it's easy to see why many of these releases were dance floor classics are being re-discovered and re-released on compact disc for the first time. And while a good many of these weren't anthems at the Wheel or the Wigan, they actually became re-(and in some cases re-re-) discovered at the all-nighters held in the late '80s and early '90s. The thumping basslines and pop-locking soul beats run rampant, from Ben E. King's previously unreleased opening number all the way through to the elegant goodbye from Esther Philips. Not the strongest of the Northern Soul releases, but definitely not one of the weakest either.
