An interesting blend of rollicking original experiments and covers of three better known artists, Get Your Rocks Off carries a wide and varied palette. The title cut, written by one Bob Dylan, is a heavy, hilarious take on one of the Basement Tapes songs. John Prine's "Pretty Good" rocks up the tempo so that it's more of a fun-loving tune rather than a comment on the times. Of the originals, "Buddah" is a comment on the various religious figures of the world while never actually preaching about any certain one. "Cloudy Day" is an instrumental tour de force that will remind listeners of something Roy Buchanan might have done. While not perfect, Get Your Rocks Off swings like a swing in the wind.
