MCA Special Products' Gentlemen of Christmas is a fine budget-priced collection that culls ten holiday tunes from the MCA vaults. It's a bit of a haphazard selection -- any time Al Jolson and Lee Greenwood are sharing space, things are bound to sound a little strange -- but that should be expected of a budget-line collection; weird selections are part of the game. If you can handle a couple of jarring choices, Gentlemen of Christmas isn't a bad choice for listeners on a budget, since it contains such fine tunes as Mel Tormé's "The Christmas Song," Jack Jones' "Angels We Have Heard on High," Burl Ives' "Christmas Child," and Bing Crosby's "Silver Bells." They may be enough to justify the unevenness of the rest of the collection, considering the CD is quite affordable.
