Funny Favorites fails because it's comprised almost entirely of re-recorded versions of novelty hits. This undercuts the songs' effectiveness considerably, since their initial success came from factors inherent in the actual, original recording. A re-recorded version of "Wooly Bully" -- no matter how faithful the rendition -- still doesn't possess the intangible that made Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs' original a hit. And sure, the packaging might get away with saying it's "one or more" of the original artists performing these hits, but the difference is clear, and it just isn't the same. Since only 11 of the three-disc set's 30 songs are originals, it's probably a better idea to enjoy these funny favorites on another compilation, in their original form.
