AllMusic Review by

Heavy on the electro influences, almost irritatingly simple in comparison to its peers, Funky Breakz, Vol. 3 arrived at a time when the international dance scene had not only accepted the substyle but had earmarked it as one of the next big crossover genres. Unfortunately, Funky Breakz, Vol. 3 didn't live up to the timing and was concerned with tepid mixing, fluffy Dot Allison-like vocals, and too many tracks that stayed too far back from the composite breaks that the likes of Tayo was making popular across the Atlantic. Despite its title, DJ X rarely inserted a funk feel, even in his own productions like Plummet's "Damaged." It was more about the uselessness of trance-pop vocals awkwardly inserted into a pool of pinball beats with too few moments of real breakage.
