AllMusic Review by

Mike Wofford has long been one of the top modern mainstream jazz pianists based in San Diego. He recorded a series of LPs for Discovery and Trend during 1978-1988. For this well-planned set, Wofford is joined by bassist Andy Simpkins, drummer Sherman Ferguson, and the obscure altoist and soprano saxophonist Paul Sundfor. Wofford mixes together standards (Billy Strayhorn's "Isfahan," Bill Evans' "Funkallero" and "Blue Serge") with lesser-known material, including Miles Davis' late-period "U 'N' I" and Wofford's own "Star Traveler." Wofford is quite creative within the jazz tradition and virtually all of his recordings are easily recommended, including this one.
