Over the last few years choral music has become increasingly popular, but in a vastly limited way. Though the Toraja have been Christianized since the 1930s, except for the fact that the Fertility feasts are no longer celebrated this has not much altered their stunning vocal style. In contrast to Western melodic choral singing the Toraja construct brief, but incredibly deep, tone poems very much like music for a living khene, the Vietnamese free-reed instrument. This is an absolute MUST for vocal-music buffs.
