Essentially nothing is known about Hochman, who recorded for maybe a dozen companies between 1918 and 1924, with groups he variously called his Yiddish, Jewish, and Ruyssian Balalaika Orchestra. The original recordings apparently didn't sell well, and though Global Village dubs him "Master of Klezmer Music," this is one for the historically minded super-buff: lots of charm, but much more surface noise than the music is worth.
