Bob Casanova has a clear and sometimes high voice that takes a little bit of getting used to. On this set he performs seven standards and four originals with a variety of players, many of whom are closely associated with the New Artists label. Usually joined by pianist Boel Dirke, guitarist Andy Fite (whose solos range from the conventional to quite adventurous), bassist Rich Califano, and sometimes tenor saxophonist Charley Krachy, Casanova digs into such songs as "There Will Never Be Another You," "Stella by Starlight," and "I Should Care" with heartfelt feeling and a solid sense of swing. He also performs a pair of free duets with drummer Carol Tristano (Lennie's daughter) and collaborates on "Jazzonia" with bassist Lynn Seaton. Interesting if not essential music.
