AllMusic Review by

Marshall Crenshaw is one of those songwriters whose original songs sound like they could've been written in the early-to-mid-1960s, yet they don't come across as "retro" (there's a complete lack of irony here) or overly nostalgic. Crenshaw writes songs in a "classic" mold--concise, catchy, emotional music that sounds better with each listening. This 2001 live set from the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey finds Marshall in an "unplugged" context, where he revisits his own impressive catalog ("Cynical Girl," "Whenever You're On My Mind") and recasts the hits of others ("Walk Away Renee," "Endless Sleep").
