Thankfully for lovers of high-octane instrumental rock, Phono-Comb, originally a temporary project, released this recording. The band features the warm bass sound of Beverly Breckenridge (Fifth Column), the guitar of Dallas Good (the Sadies), and the well-known, jangly duo of drummer Don Pyle and guitarist Reid Diamond. The duo is formerly from Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, with Diamond as the bassist. That probably explains why they work so well together, almost seeming like the rhythm section themselves. This is one of the best recent instrumental rock albums from a fertile Chicago scene that includes 5ive Style.
