The four-song Freedom of '76 is most notable for the inclusion of Beastie Boy Mike D.'s "Shaved Dog" remix of the title cut, the third single from the inimitable Chocolate & Cheese album; aside from a swank sampled intro, the new mix doesn't differ greatly from the original, however, stripping down the original Philly soul arrangement to emphasize Gener's falsetto lead. The other rarity, "Now I'm Freaking Out," is the kind of song the duo can knock off in their sleep -- its distorted guitars, cheap drum machine beat, and phased vocals don't add up to much at all, really. The final cut is merely "Pollo Asado," readily available on The Pod LP, so all in all, this one's kind of a rip-off. Keep in mind it's on the Australian label Flying Nun, and Australia was founded as a penal colony, so draw your own conclusions.
