All of the songs on Frank Sinatra Sings the Select Sammy Cahn were originally released in the late '50s on Sinatra's singles and concept albums for Capitol Records. It is to the credit of both the singer and the songwriter that these songs are as effective on this compilation as they are in their original context. The key is that the album is arranged like songbook and, therefore, it spotlights both Sammy Cahn's talents as a writer and Sinatra's skills as an interpreter. Sings the Select Sammy Cahn isn't a necessary purchase if you have all the material on other collections, but if you're looking for a sampler of either Sinatra or Cahn, this disc is an excellent purchase.
