Keyboardist and drummer Bernard Oattes tries his hand with light jazz and fusion on 1992's Frame By Frame. Oattes performed, wrote, and arranged all 11 tracks himself, with help from an assembled cast that includes saxophonists Cees Ten Dam or Gerbrand Westveen, trombonist Simon Westveen, trumpeter Eelco Oudolf, and guitarists Bert Meulendijk or Floor Turk. Oattes, who also plays drums and does the rhythm programming, is a fine musician, but not a great singer or lyricist. These numbers don't lack energy or enthusiasm and are engineered so artfully that they may find a place on light jazz radio stations, especially since most are under five minutes.
