Forever Gold: More Soul Ballads looks like a good collection of soul classics from the likes of the Miracles, Brook Benton, the Chi-Lites, Teddy Pendergrass, and Clarence Carter. The only catch is that almost all the songs included here are not the original performances but are remakes from much farther down the line in the artists' careers. It also repeats many songs from the Soul Ballads disc that came before it. Very odd. The musical backing is tinny and canned sounding and the singers for the most part show their age. The Miracles sound especially lame on "The Tracks of My Tears" with Smokey nowhere to be heard. Only Aaron Neville ("Tell It Like It Is") sounds like he still is able to sing without it hurting both him and the listeners. Who would buy a disc made up of nothing but remakes and fakes? Hopefully nobody.
