Forever Gold: Guitar Greats is a decent collection spanning several decades of real rock & roll. Select cuts from Santana, the Stray Cats, B.B. King, and Steely Dan's Jeff Baxter represent the skill of a true musician and do the compilation justice. Oddly, Motörhead's Lemmy Kilmister and the Doors' Robbie Krieger offer their own versions of two particular Queen classics, alone heightening the eccentric interest of Forever Gold: Guitar Greats. Kilmister's raspy harsh vocals on "Tie Your Mother Down" gives a little edge to Queen's rendition, while Krieger's theatrical presentation on "We Are the Champions" tames down the original song's anthemic character with a metal-like storm. Forever Gold: Guitar Greats isn't exactly thorough, but it's a nice look at some of the better guitarists who had an impact on rock & roll from the 1970s and beyond.
