AllMusic Review by

This classic album is dominated by the Charles Lloyd Quartet's historic appearance at the 1966 Monterey Jazz Festival. In addition to "East of the Sun," Lloyd (on tenor and flute), pianist Keith Jarrett, bassist Cecil McBee, and drummer Jack DeJohnette performed the 17½-minute, two-part "Forest Flower," which was the hit of the festival and helped make the group a sensation. Also included on this album are renditions of Jarrett's "Sorcery" and McBee's "Song of Her," which were recorded ten days earlier. One of the high points of Charles Lloyd's career.
