This is the man with the big baritone who penned the eternal "For Your Love," one of the best romance songs ever. His voice is strong, clear and his enunciation flawless. For whatever reason, his vocal career faded after that hit, and he decided to write hits for others like Theola Kilgore, Dee Dee Warwick and Marvin Gaye. However, these fourteen tracks tend to stay in the ballad range with sweet orchestra arrangements. On these songs, mostly done on Capitol in the 1950s and early 1960s, Townsend turns in faithful renditions of "Lover, Come Back To Me," "Prisoner of Love" and "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me."
