As titles go, For the 83rd Time conveys a certain weariness, but it supposedly refers to the number of Capitol albums Tennessee Ernie Ford had made up to that point. Ford's final album for Capitol after a nearly 30-year association with the label. For the 83rd Time produced his last chart hit, "I Been to Georgia on a Fast Train." Ford all but abandoned country music for MOR pop throughout the '60s, but For the 83rd Time is a straight country album with entertaining songs and a sense of humor that harks back to his early days. "Daddy What's a Tree" is one of very few environmental country songs of its time, and the overall vibe is upbeat and optimistic. This is one of Ford's better albums from the second half of his career.
