Bill Anderson and Jan Howard's first duet album, For Loving You, was released in support of the title track, which topped the country charts for four weeks in 1967. The album seems like an afterthought since the material consists almost entirely of country standards like "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" and "Beyond the Sunset." "I Walk the Line" is the liveliest cut on an album of love songs that were obviously chosen on the basis of their common sentiment. In that sense, the album is thematic and complements "For Loving You," but the dearth of original material from Anderson, who is a talented and prolific songwriter, is curious.
