On these seven mainly up-tempo compositions, David Murray doubles on tenor saxophone and bass clarinet featuring the rhythm section of pianist John Hicks, bassist Fred Hopkins, and drummer Idris Muhammad. While Murray still produces exciting flashes of furious free jazz tenor, he reins in his avant garde leanings, playing in an overall melodic yet bluesy style. Amongst the variety of moods captured on this Japanese DIW release are the free funk sensibilities of "Fantasy Rainbow," hard bop on the John Hicks composition "Hicks Time," Kenny Dorham's "Asiatic Raes," and the Latin tinged "Concion de Amor." The centerpiece of the disc is the heartfelt waltz "Fishin' and Missin' You (For Aunt Louise)," in which Murray plays delicate but emotional bass clarinet.
