Another volume in Decca's lifestyle classical music series, For an Evening With Friends bubbles over with a dozen lively, playful pieces such as Mozart's "Serenade No. 13 N G, K525 (Eine Kleine Nacthmusic)" and intimate compositions like Bach's "Suite No. 4 for Lute in E, BWV 1006A." Tchaikovksy's "Serenade for Strings in C, Op. 48 [Waltz]," Mendelssohn's "Symph. No. 4 in A. Op. 90 (Italian)," and Bach's "Brandenburg Conceto No. 2, F, BWV 1047" lend a stimulating, high-toned air to the album, while Joaquín Rodrigo's "Allegro Con Spirito From Concierto de Aranjuez," Gluck's "Dance of the Blessed Spirits From Orphee et Eurydice," and Peter Warlock's "Pieds-en-l'air From Capriol Suite" have a mellow warmth that fosters conversation and relaxation. While the sequencing of the album is a little uneven, For an Evening With Friends is nevertheless a pleasant album enjoyed with friends, as suggested, or on one's own.
