This CD is a bit of a grabbag since its material was recorded at four different sessions from a four-year period. However with such talented soloists as cornetist Peter Ecklund, trombonist Dan Barrett, clarinetists Joe Muranyi and Ken Peplowski, guitarist Howard Alden and the leader/pianist, the mixture of complete obscurities and classic standards generally works quite well. There are vocals (of various quality) from Waldo, Muranyi, Susan LaMarche and even Leon Redbone and highlights include "Good Old New York," "I Need Some Pettin," "Some Sweet Day" and "Exit Gloom." Fans of traditional and classic jazz will enjoy this one.
