A bad idea whose time apparently has come is this dreadful mismatch of Bulgarian vocal music and the type of jazz-based scat singing that placed dozens of low-budget European films of the early '60s in soundtrack hell. The worst moments here include a deedle-dum version of Beethoven's "Fur Elise" followed by the traditional-based Balkan Christmas song "Koledarska Pesen" in which all traces of authentic harmonic discord have been ironed out. Even if you try to enjoy Folk Scat on the same camp level that makes Pat Boone's foray into heavy metal a treat, and even without a digeridoo, Folk Scat composer/director Stara Zagora has concocted what may well be the worst that fusion folk music has to offer.
