The title is obviously a play on the film The Last Days of Disco, and its contents don't exactly follow suit. The range of picks doesn't exactly trace the roots or the beginnings of disco; instead, it more or less sticks to the same formula used by like-minded sets that compile plenty of familiar disco-era singles with significant cuts that weren't quite as popular. Though it does fall victim to including mostly single edits -- which are almost always inferior when compared to the full-length or extended mixes -- The First Days of Disco does provide a balanced selection that includes Atmosfear's "Dancing in Outer Space," Crown Heights Affair's "Groove Control," Amii Stewart's "Knock on Wood," Disco Tex & the Sex-O-Lettes' "Get Dancin'," Lamont Dozier's "Boogie Business," the Whispers' "And the Beat Goes On," and Positive Force's "We Got the Funk." Several artists appear more than once, which may be problematic for some.
