Mackey found a way to give surprising life to an old idea. His innovative piano arrangements find chords and harmonies previously unknown to hymns. Instead of orchestrating the emotive highlights of each song, Mackey allows the listener to shape his or her own feelings without using accompaniment. The result is a fervent yet simple collection of melodic prayers to the Lord. The album title Finally alludes to the ten years it took the pianist to arrange these hymns in his unique style. "Teach Me to Walk in the Light" and "I Am a Child of God" best represent Mackay's arranging capabilities. Fans of Paul Cardall and Cory Reese should particularly enjoy this album.
