The great thing about music is the way it circles round. When I was recording in the Dominican Republic in the 1970s, the accordion was regarded as hicky beyond belief and the dancebands were all the rage. Now there's a whole new generation of tough accordionists, of whom accordionist Fefita is perhaps the toughest. The sax-player and she are soon spinning off opposite walls and by the hauntingly weird third track both Fefita's playing and the (brilliant) melody of the chorus achieve a sort of merengue atonality.
