AllMusic Review by

With their gospel fervor and fiery lead vocals from Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, the Maytals (who also include singers Jerry Matthias and Raleigh Gordon) have managed to connect the compass points of hard gospel, African blues, Memphis soul, driving ska, and conscious roots reggae for more than 40 years now. Fever collects a handful of energetic early tracks, including two classic Leslie Kong-produced hits, "Sweet And Dandy" and "Pomps And Pride," but lacks too many ("Funky Kingston," "Pressure Drop," "Time Tough," "54-46 Was My Number," "Monkey Man") to be considered essential.
