Feline/Dreamtime/Aural Sculpture Review

by Andy Kellman

In 2003, a European wing of Epic bundled together three Stranglers albums -- 1983's Feline, 1984's Aural Sculpture, and 1987's Dreamtime -- and sold the package for a reduced price. The versions of the albums included here are the 2001 reissues, all of which feature numerous bonus tracks. Dreamtime also comes with an ominous-sounding (and misspelled) bonus track, entitled "An Evening With Hugh Cornell." With the possible exception of Aural Sculpture, none of the albums are among the Stranglers' best work, but a handful of the band's most-successful singles (soft-rock-by-misogynist-brutes staples like "Skin Deep," "Always the Sun," "European Female," "No Mercy," and "Nice in Nice") can be found here.
