If you favor the softer, symphonic, syrupy side of Sarah Vaughan, this is a collection that might appeal to you. Although far from definitive, or even familiar, the set features Vaughan's pristine voice backed by an orchestra and string section, with every song being a slow ballad and treated as opera. The material is fairly obscure, there are none of her famous torch song hits, and although most will recognize "Fools Paradise," "Say You'll Wait for Me," and Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria," the remainder of the program is not all that memorable or timeless. There are much better and extensive compilations available from Vaughan, even on the overtly theatrical side. This one can only be recommended to completists or the ultra-curious.
